Did everyone have a crazy night out on New Years Eve?
My husband and I got chinese take out, rented a Redbox movie, and each had half a glass of champagne before calling it a night.
We’re pretty crazy.
The sushi was delicious and a quiet night in with my husband was just fine with me. We did VIP bottle service at a club last year and South Beach the year before that, so this was a fine change of pace.
New Years day was more of a celebration – trying out a sweet potato version of Jess’s delicious looking potato puffs to take to my aunt’s house to watch the Steelers beat on the Browns.
I omitted the milk, parmesan, and green onions, and used some almond flour, graham cracker crumbs, cinnamon, and puffed rice cereal instead of the bread crumbs.
The parmesan must play a roll in the resulting texture, but I couldn’t figure out any other substitution (other than almond flour). Maybe a spicy, savory version with chili powder, parmesan, and rosemary?
They were still tasty, but more like dessert. I plan on trying the original version soon.
Any ideas?
Make any great recipes over the long weekend? Have you ever spent a quiet New Years Eve in?
these sound good! i’m sure the graham cracker crumbs and cinnamon contributed to the sweetness. I was planning to make these but cut way back on the parmesan….like less than 1/2 a cup and seeing how that turns out. i also might mash some black beans into them!
Love the black bean idea! I definitely think savory is the way to go.
Those sound wonderful! You know I love sweet potato… in fact, this weekend I made a sweet potato-based lentil loaf.
I already checked it out and can’t wait to try it! 🙂
Those actually sound like a fantastic dessert! In fact, I think I’d prefer your dessert sweet potato version 😉
Yes, I just promised an appetizer – it was like dessert before dinner. 😉
i’ve always preferred nights in on new years, the times we’ve been out were fun, but the older i get the less it sounds appealing after spending so much money all December! we stayed in, had another couple over and watched movies/played trivia games like the old people that we are 😉
Aww, sounds like a blast! My husband is not in to board games unfortunately.
omg so does my bf!!! it’s been a slow, painful journey of getting him to join in, but he’s slowly caved cuz my family is really into it, that’s what we do when we get together. so now with friends that were into it he caved and even got really competitive!
Those look delicious! Go Steelers!
Indeed! Can’t wait for the wildcard game 🙂
i saw these potato poppers on Jess’s blog the other day – they sounded intriguing to me! i need to try them out.
glad you had a nice new year’s eve in! we didn’t do anything too crazy… just went out to dinner and over to some friends’ house for a bit. we were in bed before midnight though – we were that lame. 😉
Still sounds like a great night!
We used to go crazy for New Year’s but for the past couple, we have just been going to a small bar by our house and have a low-key night. We know the owners and it’s never crowded, so we just usually sit around and chit-chat.
That sounds like a perfect balance of celebrating and relaxing!
Love the way you guys celebrated new years, sushi is ok in my book!
Are you going to the blogger dinner that we were invited to? We could drive down together I thought!
Let’s do it! Did you get the official email invite yet? I think mine might be stuck in spam land!
Happy New Year Gorgeous!!
Ahhh we just laid low too! We were actually in a movie {mission impossible 4} when the clock turned over. We know how to party 😉 LOL
xxoo
We have spent New Year’s Eve at home for the past several years and I love it! I love getting to bed early and not worrying about being hung over or exhausted on New Year’s Day! 🙂
Those sweet potato puffs look pretty awesome!
Wishing you a GREAT and BLESSED 2012!
Our New Year Eve looked just like yours! I really like those romantic dinner at home.. perfect way of ending a year! We are crazy people 😉
Happy New Year to you and your family! Wish you the best for 2012 🙂
Okay, those look insanely delicious! And I would have been happy having a NYE like that too. Love low key time with the husband. 🙂
Your new years was about as wild as mine 😉
My husband and I were just talking about how this year might have been our last “crazy” NYE out. Too much suck the next day!
And these look very yummy, Claire!
